Research has shown that boys and girls learn in different ways. Some of the behaviors that differentiate boys from girls are the result of differences in the way our brains develop and operate. Gender specific school settings with varied instruction are one way to accommodate these gender differences.
The District is exploring the viability of opening an all boys’ school and an all girls’ school in close proximity to one another for the upcoming school year. In order to do so, the District would take existing small schools in neighboring communities and change the format of the student population.
Given the current budget reality of operationally small schools, this scenario is one way we are looking at keeping these small schools open and also doing what is best for our students with programs that meet individual needs.
